ARE YOU A SENSATE?

Sensates feel their feelings more acutely than most, sometimes without even realising it. You possess a unique form of intelligence — one that is neither recognised nor valued in this current world. In fact, it’s usually regarded as a liability, an indicator of trauma, a dysregulation, or at worst, you’ve been diagnosed.

Due to the intensity of your inner experience, you’ve more-than-likely internalised this negative reflection. Rather than knowing the benefits of your gifts and capabilities, you often experience yourself as a failure, burdened with shame, a deep sense of unworthiness and social anxiety, even though you love people. For some, there’s a profound sense of not belonging or an existential terror that feels unreachable.

You also deeply feel the feelings of others, often feeling responsible for their well-being. Putting others’ needs before your own is second nature to you, as you cannot bear to see them in pain. Whilst some label this behaviour as “people pleasing”, you intuitively know that’s not your intention, yet you often take this on as yet another indicator of your weakness.

Being alone sometimes feels lonely, but it can be such a relief. You don’t have to hide who we are and it can reduce the intensity of your inner world, which can become exhausting. Sensates often develop elusive chronic illnesses or auto-immune conditions.

You frequently feel unseen and deeply misunderstood.

Another distinctive trait is your profound need for authenticity. Some experience it as being unfiltered, which isn’t always well received. Some sensates, however, hide it. Yet without authenticity, your whole being feels unsafe or profoundly confused by the absence of clear and open honesty.

Finally, despite your life-long commitment to personal growth and the inner journey, it seems like your “wounds” never heal. There is a depth you can never reach, which feels like the core of your brokenness. You keep searching for the root cause in your childhood, which is what the world believes, leading you to believe that even in this, you are a failure.

THE GIFT OF BEING A SENSATE

Oh, you have SO many gifts.

The main one is that you have a heightened sensitivity, that grants you access to dimensions of being that are concealed and off-limits to the mind.

Tantric teachings, for instance, are often described as hidden – not because they’re intentionally concealed, but because they aren’t FEELABLE by most people. To many they seem theoretical, inaccessible or not that significant. However, to a sensate, these teachings burst into life like a breath of fresh air that finally speaks so directly to your experience.

Like breadcrumbs in the dark, these maps give you strangely somatically markers, and the hidden specificity to help you enter the darkness, where the feelings remain protected and hidden. Rather than scary, these depths are profoundly warm, safe and nourishing and quiet.

Rather than our demons, we begin to sense their incredible innocence and love. And how they have been trapped by US.

Approaching them with radical kindness, spaciousness, respect and a gentle non-directness takes training. But in time, this incredibly slow and loving pace begins to reveal a very different landscape of experience.

Meeting these sacred energies is one of the most exquisite experiences you’ll ever have. Especially to a sensate. The misperception of feelings is illuminated directly in the body, unleashing a profound infusion of compassion love and subtle bliss.

With training, this dimension of being not only becomes available to you, but you can navigate it consistently. As you do this over, and over again, the pull into wrongness slowly begins to dissolve and your relationship to the feeling realm becomes your sacred pathway home.

ENTERING THE DARKNESS

The darkness is the spiritual dimension of our consciousness. As we learn to rest in it’s nourishing depths, the sacred energies that are currently trapped in our bodies and experienced as emotional pain begin to finally have room to breathe and reveal their true radiance. .

ENTERING THE DARKNESS

Half of this module is about learning how to enter the darkness, rest deeply in it and trust it. This allows us to meet feelings differently, but it also increases our capacity to abide in the subtle bliss of our essence. The nourishment of Being.

Key aspects to this are:

  • Training to be with sensations beneath story
  • Training to receive feelings rather than enter into them
  • Training to stay in the depths by taking in its nourishment
  • Training to become comfortable in the unknown

UNBLENDING & BEFRIENDING

The other part of this training is to learn to recognise when you’re in fragmented states and use them as a startling gateway to presence.

Key aspects to this are:

  • Entering embodied presence through mental states
  • Entering embodied presence through emotional states
  • Unlocking the intense grip of extreme states
  • Resting in calmness in the presence of intensity

SOOTHING EXTREME EMOTIONS

As you begin to be able to take yourself quickly and consistently from a highly activated state into a state of calm, you begin to trust yourself and your experience. For hyper-feelers this is life-changing.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

1. WEEKLY TEACHINGS:

We meet every week for 9 weeks. You will receive a video before each group gathering, so that group sessions are quieter and experiential. Partly teaching the maps of Buddhism (pointing out), partly teaching how to bring the practices to life.

2. SOMATIC PRACTICES:

A blend of Space and Feelings practices. These practices are recorded to music and are rich, gentle, slow and soothing instruction of how to navigate space and unblend from story so that you can meet the vibrations of feelings beneath. You do these practices in bed, so that you can relax deeply, and are often best done when you’re activated. They’re easier to navigate with more intense feelings. Which is both a joy and a relief!

3. FOUR INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS

You will have four individual sessions over the two months, for specific individual guidance.

4. GROUP WORK:

This aspect of the training is potent for Sensates, as you’ve often navigated these depths alone without being understood. Slow, mindful and incredibly real, we explore practices individually (whilst together) and relationally. Naming the moment-to-moment experience of what is usually hidden, to someone who can feel with you, is profoundly healing and strangely down-regulating.

5. SMALL PODS

These small pods are like conversations in the underworld. There is NO processing. Only a space where you are able to name your present moment experience, in mindfulness. There is no usually conversation. It’s just that you experience what happens when you hear someone speak authentically about what is happening in their present moment experience. Not only is it down regulating, but you begin to see what trust feels like and understand it’s relevance to you.

6. MIGHTY NETWORKS

All course work and reflections go through Mighty Network. This allows me to send you inspirations and you get to have a space to share short reflections. These short reflections help you see that we’re all doing the same madness. This helps dis-identify the story so much more.

 

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The main benefit you will notice is that your relationship to feelings begins to change. Not only will you begin to learn how to receive them, you will also begin to learn how to trust them.

Being with the sensations beneath the story becomes a pathway you follow, out of fragmentation into the rich immediacy of the present moment that you’ve never been able to receive or be with.

As you learn to turn the feeling volume down, you are able to receive them in new ways, an experience that is infused with insight, compassion and self-forgiveness.

You gain insight into the sweet tenderness of the human condition, that changes something in your relationship towards yourself and others.

This pathway is a gradual, as the pull into habit begins to loosen so gently and nourishingly over time.

Feelings begin to be what we want to follow, a beacon out of the mind and the relentless confusion of the stories we believe.

You begin to trust feelings as a pathway home to wholeness.

 

STATE SHIFTING & UNBLENDING

With practice, we can learn to recognise when we’re lost in a mental and emotional state. As we welcome them with kindness, we can inhabit their somatic expression consciously … and paradoxically come into full, embodied presence. The key to this, is dropping the judgement of your experience and learning how to enter into them softly.

IMMERSION DETAILS

Two groups will run concurrently: IN-PERSON (in Mullumbimby) and an ON-LINE group. Both are small and intimate, giving us the safety to dive into the shadow together. Group work is unmistakably more potent than individual sessions. Both groups include:

      • 8 x Daily guided practices (one each week)
      • 8 x Teachings sent out before sessions
      • 4 x Individual sessions
      • 8 x Weekly Group sessions
      • Small support pods
      • Final weekend retreat to complete

I’ve tried to make the times for the on-line group accessible for people in Australia, Europe and the US.

Whilst this is a nearly impossible task, I have rotated them so that we share the burden of early morning and late night sessions.

If they’re really late in one part of the world, we’ll make sessions 1.5 hours only.

If they’re a decent time, sessions will be two hours.

All group sessions will be recorded and available if you can’t attend.

Time zones are written separately here for AEDT, CEST and US.
